Blood Brothers

I saw this song and instantly thought of my brother, Mike. Mike and I are twin brothers and we spent life together until I was 24 years, when I moved to Texas.  We still talk here and there, but I need to make the effort to communicate with him more. We were roommates in college, hung out in high school, bonfires at the cabin, golf trips to Arizona and Texas, fishing in Alaska, concerts in Detroit Lakes, MN, boating, snowmobiling, having our apartments across the parking lot from each other, tailgating in my parents driveway on Lake Minnetonka, cooking out, etc.  We always used to say in college “money comes and goes, but memories last forever” and we sure do have exceptional memories that will last forever.
Mike and I do have a lot of great memories together and lately he has really been on my mind.  Just a weird telepathic feeling that I need to be in more contact with him and build our relationship again.  We both of us joke with each other about having when something is happening with the other.  When I was in a car accident in Minneapolis, he told me that he knew something was wrong, before we even talked to each other.  I think this time though, It could be that I am missing him. My parents and my wife tell me that they don’t hear me usually laugh as hard as I do when I am hanging out with him (when he visits Texas).  My brother-in-law, which was one of my best-friends, was killed in a car accident a little over a year ago.  Matt and I would hang out all of the time and do some of the same things Mike and I did. I’ve been in Texas for 11 years and I have only seen Mike a handful of times and we need to start talking more over the phone, FaceTime, text and getting together once a year.  I am extremely fortunate to have my older brother, Jim, living here in Texas in the next neighborhood over.  He is a great guy and a lot of fun to hang out with.  He is a wealth of knowledge and can cook and fix just about anything.  I have really enjoyed and truly cherish the relationship him and I are building since he moved here.  It will be wonderful when the three of us will be reunited this summer and live, laugh and love.  I am really looking forward to Mike and his family coming down to Texas in 3 weeks – month to visit my other brother, parents, my family and I.  I am excited to go golfing with my dad / Mike / Jim, maybe jet-ski a little bit, shoot some guns at the shooting range, BBQ, swimming, etc.

Bottom Line: I miss my friend.

Blood Brothers – Luke Bryan

Lyrics:

We were as young as we were dumb
When we piled in an old pile of junk
It was one for all, and all for one
A bunch of outlaws without a gun
Shootin’ bad booze outta Dixie cups
Chasin’ every girl that wasn’t fast enough
No matter how bad the break or how bad the luck
Or how bad the day we still had us

Blood brothers closer than your next to kin
Thick as thieves and the best of friends
Take a bullet for each other

Yeah brothers like that don’t come cheap
You fight, you cry, you lie, you bleed
And you lean on one another
Blood brothers

I got a scar on my cheek from a bar room brawl
Wasn’t meant for me but I took the fall
It’s a cowboy code it’s an unwrote law
When you mess with one you gotta take us all.

Blood brother’s closer than your next to kin
Thick as thieves and the best of friends
Take a bullet for each other

Yeah brothers like that don’t come cheap
You fight, you cry, you lie, you bleed
And you lean on one another
Blood brothers

Time can fly on by
Everything can change
Until the day we die
We’ll always remain
We’ll remain
Yeah yeah yeah

Blood brothers closer than you next of kin
Thick as thieves and the best of friends
Take a bullet for each other

Yeah brothers like that don’t come cheap
You fight, you cry, you lie, you bleed
And you lean on one another
Blood brothers

Yeah yeah
Oh oh
Blood brothers
