Selling the Drama

you were given this life quote
Music and songs don’t necessarily have to mean the same thing to you as the song writer and that is the great thing about interpretation of art.
Often, I do not look up the meaning of a song, but this time, when I was pulling up Selling the Drama by Live, the phrasing ‘Selling the Drama Meaning’ popped up in the search box.  I read a lot of commentary about how the song reflects
anti-religion and how the singer is against forms of religion, but I did not derive that meaning out of the song when I listened to it.
The meaning of the song is simple to me… My interpretation of the song Selling the Drama and how it relates to my life is about getting rid of the negative stigma that surrounds addiction and mental health disorders.
Lyrics such as, but not limited to: “And to right or wrong, And to meek or strong; I’ve willed, I’ve walked, I’ve read, I’ve talked, I know, I know, I’ve been here before, yeah; Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that, Hey, now we won’t be raped Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that…”  are very strong and extremely powerful.  I take the lyrics and turn them into my personal meaning that a person with an addiction disorder or mental health disorder doesn’t have to live with the continuation of scars and feeling battered by their disease. At some point in active recovery, if done correctly and that is a collection of strategies that work best for that person, you will be proud of those scars and will have learned from them.
I also derive another personal meaning from this song of not letting others cause unwanted / unneeded scars in your life and letting go of the negativity by ‘selling the drama’.  Ridding the negative drama in life will allow your perception to open up to see the positive aspects of other situations and/or current situations in your life.
Selling the Drama – Live
Lyrics:
And to love: a god
And to fear: a flame
And to burn a crowd that has a name
And to right or wrong
And to meek or strong
It is known; just scream it from the wallI’ve willed, I’ve walked, I’ve read
I’ve talked, I know, I know,
I’ve been here before, yeah

Now we won’t be raped
Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that
Hey, now we won’t be raped
Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that…

It’s the sun that burns
It’s the wheel that turns
It’s the way we sing that makes ’em dream
And to Christ: a cross
And to me: a chair
I will sit and earn the ransom from up here

I’ve willed, I’ve walked, I’ve read
I’ve talked, I know, I know,
I’ve been here before, yeah

Now we won’t be raped
Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that
Hey, now we won’t be raped
Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that…
Scarred like that…
Scarred like that…

And to love: a god
And to fear: a flame
And to burn a crowd that has a name

I’ve willed, I’ve walked, I’ve read
I’ve talked, I know, I know,
I’ve been here before, yeah

Now we won’t be raped
Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that
Hey, now we won’t be raped
Hey, now we won’t be scarred like that…
Hey, hey, now, now, now…
Won’t be scarred like that…
Won’t be scarred like that…
