Anxiety Attack – Have You Seen the Rain?

There always tends to be a calm before the storm in most situations, but not necessarily mine. I have been struggling with anxiety for years, and the last few weeks, my anxiety has been intense (along with other health problems).  I ended up being taken by ambulance to a heart hospital in town, because there were suspicions I was having a heart attack (BP = 168/104, Pulse = 136, Numbness, etc).

The bottom line is, I had a massive anxiety / panic attack. I am a recovering alcoholic, and have been diagnosed with a mood disorder in the past. I am currently being treated by a psychiatrist, and have been for over 8 years.  I wish I could identify exactly what caused the anxiety attack, and I know there are several factors that accumulated over time.

I share this information, because there are people in society that think anxiety is a weakness or lack of confidence. I disagree with that statement 110%. Anxiety disorders are as real as any other medical condition, and must be considered / treated that way.

I was so IMPRESSED with St. David’s Austin Heart Hospital in Austin, Texas, for treating me extremely well. The topic of anxiety came up in the ER, and those doctors and nurses took that potential cause as serious as any other ailment it could be.

It is time to humanize mental health and mood disorders in all facets of society.  It shouldn’t matter if a person is in prison, or living in Beverly Hills, they should all have the right to fair and just treatment.

The song, ‘Have You Seen the Rain’ by CCR, was shining bright in my ears when I was in the hospital. It kept playing over and over in my mind, so I wanted to share the lyrics.

Have a Wonderful Day!!!

“Someone told me long ago
There’s a calm before the storm,
I know It’s been comin for some time.

When it’s over, so they say,
It’ll rain a sunny day,
I know
Shinin down like water.

I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin down on a sunny day

Yesterday, and days before,
Sun is cold and rain is hard,
I know
Been that way for all my time.

‘Til forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow,
I know
It can’t stop, I wonder.”

  2. I was drawn to this post by the title. Every time I leave my house I have a panic attack. I refuse to let myself become housebound so I go out and frequently have to stop because the panic is so acute.

By the time I make it to my destination I am dripping with sweat. On more than one occasion I’ve been asked if I’ve been in the rain. Thanks for writing this.

    • Thank you for your reply. I completely understand and know where you are coming from. I wear two shirts (undershirt + shirt), because I sweat so much at times in relation to anxiety. You brought a new light to my post, and I appreciate it. I hope you have a wonderful day!!!
